I got well-informed about disinfecting questionable produce back when we lived in Amish country and the kids were just little. If you haven&#039;t smelled the &quot;Scent of Spring&quot; there (when they spray the fields with an entire winter&#039;s worth of collected animal waste), you aren&#039;t missing much!

I use compost a lot, but chicken and donkey manure must be well composted (and not stinky-fresh) or you just might have e.coli issues. I think this is where problems in Mexico and south are originating - they&#039;re using the Amish method, not carefully.
